— العدد المركب: جزء حقيقي a وجزء تخيلي bi على شكل a + bi.
— الجمع والطرح: نعمل على الأجزاء المتشابهة فقط — لا نجمع حقيقياً مع تخيلي.
— الضرب: قواعد الجبر العادي مع استبدال i² بـ −1 دائماً.
— ضرب عدد مركب في مرافقه ينتج عدداً حقيقياً بحتاً.
